Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Mountaineer Maniacs?

The Mountaineer Maniacs are the largest student organization on campus and the premiere student group for Mountaineer athletics. We are the official student section for WVU sports. The organization supports Mountaineer athletic teams and helps promote good sportsmanship as well as Mountaineer pride and tradition.  Our organization is co-advised by the Division of Student Life and the WVU Athletic Department.

Why should I join the Mountaineer Maniacs?

Membership in the Mountaineer Maniacs has many benefits:

How do I get football tickets?

Check the WVU Portal (MIX) as often as possible. Check the personal and campus announcements sections to see when request periods begin and end and when claim periods begin and end. For a standard home game on Saturday, request periods will begin 8 days prior and end two days later on Tuesday at midnight.

  1. To claim your ticket visit ticketreturn.com/wvu

  2. If this is your first time logging into WVU Student Ticketing, your username is your MIX ID, and your password is the last 6 digits of your WVU ID (800 number). Once you log in, you may change your password according to your preferences.

  3. Next you will be sent to a page with a list of home games. Click on the link of the game in which you are requesting a ticket. It should be the only game highlighted.

  4. When requesting a ticket the first time, only one ticket can be requested. You do have a choice between the lower level, the upper level or Maniacs. If you are a Mountaineer Maniac with guaranteed ticketing, PLEASE NOTE that if you select any option for section other than “Maniac,” you will NOT be guaranteed a ticket. You will be sent into the same lottery as non-guaranteed ticketing students.

  5. When tickets are distributed, an e-mail will be sent to your MIX e-mail address telling you to print out your ticket. Go back to www.wvugame.com and sign in, but this time click on “claim ticket.” You have 2 days to claim your ticket, and all unclaimed tickets will be taken away. Upon claiming your ticket, you can immediately print the ticket, and reprint as many times as you like. Note that once tickets are scanned at the gate, duplicates are rendered invalid, and holders WILL NOT be permitted access to Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. Once the claim period has passed, remaining tickets (if any) are opened to all students in the on-demand period. This is the period where students forgetting to request/claim tickets can attempt to obtain a ticket, and is also the appropriate time for guest tickets to be purchased. The guest tickets must be paid online via major credit card. If you decide not to go to the game and you do not cancel your ticket, you will lose loyalty points. Be sure to bring your student ID to the gate with you to verify your identity! The easiest way to remember to claim your ticket will be to request an e-mail reminder on the ticketing page. This is an easy way to not get caught off-guard when there’s a Thursday/Friday game.

*You must be an active WVU student in order to receive student tickets.

My friend doesn’t attend WVU. Can I bring them to the football game?

If there are additional student tickets available after the request and claim periods, you will have the opportunity to purchase one guest ticket during the on-demand period. Tickets are typically $45-60 each and must be paid for online via major credit card.

What is the difference between the membership options?

All memberships include the Mountaineer Maniacs T-Shirt, 20% apparel discount at the Book Exchange, free attendance to away game watch parties, ability to go on away trips, and all giveaways. Those with Ultimate Membership have 100% chance of getting football tickets if they select the Maniacs option when requesting tickets.

Do I have to sign up for the Maniacs every year?

Yes. Upperclassmen can sign up late in the spring semester for the following year. There will be an announcement posted on MIX, and current Maniacs will receive an e-mail. New freshmen can sign up at the information fair at New Student Orientation.

Where is your office located?

Our office is located in the Student Orgs wing of the Mountainlair. We are right in front of the Career Services Center.

What are your office hours?

Our office hours are 10:00 AM-2:00 PM Monday-Friday. Please note that we do not maintain regular office hours during University recess and the summer.

How do I get basketball tickets?

The WVU Men's Basketball student ticketing process is similar to that of the football ticketing process (see "How do I get football tickets?" above to get a general sense of the process). There will be a request phase, claim phase, and on-demand phase (if tickets are unclaimed during the claim phase). Pay close attention to your mix email account for information each week surrounding when each phase begins and whether or not you were selected in the ticketing lottery. Information on attendance numbers, student section seating, and other information about the specifics on this basketball season can be found in the link above.
